Trump Hosts LIV Golf Event Amid Financial Uncertainty

LIV Golf recently hosted its New York event at President Donald Trump’s National Golf Club Bedminster. This occasion marks the third time the tour has chosen one of Trump’s courses for its events. As expected, Trump himself made an appearance.

Trump’s Reception at Sporting Events

During the event, Trump drove a golf cart around the course and received a warm reception from spectators, noted by The New York Post. This aligns with typical responses observed at different sporting events Trump has attended in the past. For example, he often receives positive reactions at UFC fights and college football games. However, not all events are the same; for instance, at a Knicks playoff game, he faced boos.

It might seem unusual if he received anything other than cheers at his own golf venue.

LIV Golf’s Current Challenges

The LIV Golf event at Trump National Golf Club comes at a pivotal moment for the tour. Its primary financial supporter, the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), announced in April that it would no longer provide funding past 2026. This decision raised questions about the league’s future.

Despite these challenges, LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil revealed the league has found a new, yet undisclosed, investor. This investor has signed an agreement, which has been approved by the Board. This support could play a crucial role as the tour enters its next phase, which aims to be more player-focused.
