President Donald Trump has received his highest approval rating in roughly half a year. The latest figures from Morning Consult Political Intelligence’s Weekly Tracker indicate a modest increase in public support. Over the past several months, Trump’s approval ratings have fluctuated. This recent improvement suggests a shift in public sentiment, although various major issues continue to pressure his overall standing.
According to the tracker, Trump’s approval rating is at 45.2 percent. His disapproval rating stands at 51.9 percent, resulting in a net approval of about -7 percent. Compared to a survey taken a month earlier, there is a net improvement of 6 percent in his approval rating. Analysts caution against interpreting this single poll as indicative of a long-term trend, noting that approval ratings can vary week to week. For example, Trump’s worst approval rating was reported in the most recent YouGov/Economist survey.
“It seems that one poll targets registered voters while the other includes ‘U.S. Citizens.’ Republicans generally have an advantage in actual voting compared to registration,” explained Grant Reeher, a political science professor at Syracuse University.
While there is some decrease in tensions with Iran and shifts within the Democratic party, the current administration remains largely unchanged. Alongside this, Trump has a 43 percent favorability rating, compared to 53 percent unfavorable perception. The Morning Consult survey included around 2,200 registered U.S. voters and holds a margin of error of 2 percent.
Trump maintains net positive approval ratings on issues such as immigration and national security. However, areas like the economy, healthcare, trade, and foreign policy show negative approval ratings. Despite recent gains, national surveys demonstrate a mix in Trump’s public standing. Opinions often divide sharply along partisan lines.
Other polls present varied approval numbers, emphasizing the need to consider polling averages. Variances exist in public opinion, illustrating a complex political landscape. Morning Consult’s results show that Trump has regained ground after several months, yet broader challenges to his overall popularity persist.
