At least 10 individuals lost their lives as Russia launched a barrage of missiles and drones aimed at Kyiv overnight into Monday. This comes just after Ukraine’s President warned of an impending large-scale assault.
Local officials reported that the attack injured 46 people, as emergency personnel searched through the wreckage at residential high-rise buildings hit directly in two areas. Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s City Military Administration, emphasized on Telegram that these were places where civilians lived their everyday lives.
In the Podilskyi district, part of a residential building collapsed. Meanwhile, in the Darnytsia district, several multistory buildings suffered damage, with individuals potentially trapped beneath debris.
Early Monday morning, waves of ballistic and cruise missiles, alongside drones, continued to strike. Explosions resonated throughout Kyiv, leading civilians to seek refuge in subway stations.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had cautioned earlier about another major Russian offensive on the city. This attack occurred only days after a strike killed at least 31 in Kyiv and just before a NATO summit in Turkey.
Zelenskyy urged Western partners to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses, particularly by sending Patriot missiles. He noted on Telegram that failing to provide additional defense supplies encourages Russia to extend the conflict.
