The pursuit for Oscar Sanchez-Munoz, aged 22, extends into its seventh day in Kansas City, Missouri. Authorities suspect him of causing one fatality and injuring four others in a recent shooting incident.
The FBI has posted a $25,000 reward for any information, as the family reports Sanchez-Munoz showed signs of schizophrenia.
Body Discovery
On Wednesday, police informed Fox News that a body, believed to be Sanchez-Munoz, was found by the family in a charred house’s basement. The remains, discovered beneath debris, were detected following the presence of a distinct smell during visits after a police standoff induced fire.
Despite searches by investigators, federal partners, and K-9 units, the home’s collapsed and cluttered basement had previously concealed the body.
Multi-State Shooting Spree
Sanchez-Munoz was sought in connection to at least six shootings spanning multiple states. The manhunt began after alleged shootings at vehicles along Interstate 70, close to Arrowhead Stadium, where FIFA World Cup matches took place.
The FBI had released a wanted notice, urging public assistance to find Sanchez-Munoz, labeled “armed and dangerous.” The shooting spree resulted in one death and several serious injuries, one being an Uber driver transporting World Cup fans.
Official Statements
Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche had suggested the suspect’s death inside the Missouri home, although confirmation was pending. Officials later stated the deceased’s clothing matched the suspect’s attire during the attacks.
Identification and death cause will be confirmed by a medical examiner. Authorities reassured the public of no immediate threat, stating all injured are expected to recover.
