Measles Exposure Alert at Los Angeles International Airport and Nearby Hotel

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has issued a warning regarding a potential measles exposure involving a traveler passing through Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). This traveler, arriving on Cathay Pacific Flight CX 884 on June 11, was confirmed to have measles while in the area, potentially exposing others at LAX and at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport Hotel.

This incident marks the sixth reported measles case in Los Angeles County in 2023. Officials emphasize the possibility of increased exposure risks due to heightened summer travel and international visitors flocking to the region for FIFA World Cup events.

The risk of exposure could increase as summer travel ramps up.

Health authorities indicate that individuals present in the Tom Bradley International Terminal between 10 a.m. and noon on June 11 might have been exposed. Additionally, guests at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport Hotel at 5711 W. Century Blvd. between 11:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. on the same day could be at risk.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is collaborating with local health departments to alert passengers who were seated near the infected traveler on the international flight.

Individuals who were present at the mentioned locations during the specified times are advised to monitor for measles symptoms, which can appear seven to 21 days post-exposure. The final date to check for symptoms is July 2.

Symptoms of measles include fever, cough, runny nose, red and watery eyes, followed by a rash that usually starts on the face and spreads to the rest of the body.

Dr. Muntu Davis, Los Angeles County Health Officer, stresses the importance of ensuring that residents are adequately protected against measles. “The MMR vaccine is the safest and most reliable way to prevent measles and protect yourself, your family, and your community,” he stated.

Fox News Digital attempted to contact the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health for further comments but has not received a response.
