Supreme Court Declines to Revive Carter Page’s Lawsuit

The Supreme Court has decided not to reopen Carter Page’s lawsuit against former FBI officials. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson recused herself from the ruling. This decision concludes Page’s effort to hold FBI leaders accountable for surveillance mistakes from the Russia investigation.

With this ruling, Page is left without further legal options. The lawsuit against former officials, including James Comey, is closed. This decision upholds a lower court’s determination that Page’s claims were filed too late.

The Supreme Court issued a brief, unsigned order rejecting Page’s appeal, confirming the federal appeals court’s decision that the three-year statute of limitations blocked his claims. Carter Page argued that the timeframe should have started in 2019, when the Justice Department’s inspector general identified significant flaws in the FBI’s surveillance process. Page filed his lawsuit in 2020, but the courts disagreed. Justice Jackson’s non-participation remains unexplained, as is standard practice.
