The survivor, Mohammad Taj Alamyar, a 35-year-old from Afghanistan, spoke out about the horrific incident. He and the other victims, originally from Afghanistan and Pakistan, were involved in strawberry harvesting. They had questioned their handlers about unpaid wages. This inquiry led to the brutal response.
Mr. Alamyar informed investigators that the attackers were Pakistani drug traffickers linked to Italian crime syndicates. Despite his injuries, he managed to escape through the back of the burning van. He shared his experience with La Repubblica, an Italian newspaper.
