Myles Garrett Traded to Rams in Major Deal

The Cleveland Browns have stunned the NFL community by trading Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams. This move follows several statements from the Browns denying Garrett’s availability for trade.

Initially, reports suggested that the Browns would receive 2024 Defensive Rookie of the Year Jared Verse and draft pick compensation. However, the confirmed terms of the deal have now emerged.

Trade Details Unveiled

The Rams received Myles Garrett, a star with seven Pro Bowl selections, five first-team All-Pro honors, and two NFL Defensive Player of the Year awards. In return, the Browns secured Jared Verse, a two-time Pro Bowler, alongside a first-round pick in 2027, a second-round pick in 2028, and a third-round pick in 2029, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Rams Trade Picks Strategy

By trading away their 2027 first-round pick, the Rams extend their trend of bypassing early draft picks. They will have avoided a first-round selection in nine of the past 12 drafts. Their recent first-round picks include Jared Goff (2016), traded to the Lions for Matthew Stafford in 2020, Jared Verse (2024), now with the Browns, and the 2023 pick, Ty Simpson, selected 13th overall.

Impacts and Insights

Reports from Schefter and Ian Rapoport clarified that including Verse in the trade shifted the Browns’ position on trading Garrett. Rapoport explained, “When Jared Verse was suddenly in the deal, the picks got moved around a little bit, it got to a point where the two teams said, ‘You know what, this could actually happen.’” Myles Garrett is set to join the Rams as the only team actively pursuing him.

Although Jared Verse hasn’t reached Garrett’s level of performance, he brings strong credentials. The 25-year-old was tied for the second-most pressures (100) among NFL edge-rushers last season, trailing only Will Anderson Jr.’s 102 pressures. Verse also led in QB hits (27) and ranked third in hurries (64). His record included 7.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, and a 16.1 pass-rush win-rate, according to Pro Football Focus.
