During a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, President Donald Trump mentioned his intention to attend an NBA Finals game next week. This interest comes as the New York Knicks make their first Finals appearance in nearly three decades.
Jeremy Lin’s performance in 2012 gave New York Knicks fans renewed hope. Despite the team, including Lin, Carmelo Anthony, and Amar’e Stoudemire, not securing a championship, it marked a significant moment. The team re-emerged into the spotlight for the first time since 1999. This current Knicks roster is now following in those footsteps.
“I truly want to give a shoutout to Jeremy Lin because he really made me a Knicks fan,” said Karl-Anthony Towns, reflecting on Lin’s influence. “It was crazy trying to find his jersey. I have so much love for Jeremy Lin, he’s one of my favorite Knicks of all time.”
Karl-Anthony Towns, alongside teammates Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart, leads the Knicks in their NBA Finals journey. Towns reminisced about growing up in New Jersey and being inspired by Lin, known for his “Linsanity” period in basketball.
Towns added that his parents were instrumental in steering him towards Knicks fandom instead of becoming a Brooklyn Nets fan. His appreciation for Lin drove his passion for the team. This connection now comes full circle as he plays for the Knicks.
With the upcoming NBA Finals, Towns and his teammates are four wins from clinching the Knicks’ first title since 1973. This achievement would solidify their place in New York sports history.
