YouTuber Discusses Pregnancy Termination Following Down Syndrome Diagnosis

YouTuber Jesse Ridgway and his wife recently shared their decision to terminate a pregnancy after learning their unborn child had Down syndrome. This announcement came after what they described as a challenging decision-making process. Ridgway revealed the diagnosis and the outcome on Wednesday through a post on X. He mentioned how they struggled after doctors indicated their baby would likely be born with the genetic condition.

Ridgway stated, “This week, my wife and I made the very difficult decision to terminate the pregnancy due to Trisomy 21. The choice was not made lightly. We really appreciate all of the personal stories you shared with us, especially the unconditional support we received from fans, no matter what we decided.” His YouTube channel, McJuggerNuggets, has over 4 million followers, and he had previously kept them updated throughout his wife Ashley’s pregnancy.

After receiving the Trisomy 21 diagnosis confirmation, Ridgway posted a video showing his wife’s emotional response. He acknowledged that some fans might be disappointed to hear about the abortion but thanked others for their support. He added, “We are devastated. This has been extremely traumatic for both of us, especially Ashley. She underwent the procedure earlier this week and is on the mend. Thankfully, everything went smoothly, but emotionally we are drained.”

Ridgway shared statistics about Down syndrome, noting that half of the babies with the condition face heart defects, 75% experience hearing issues, and many have eyesight challenges. He also mentioned other health and development challenges associated with the condition.

The announcement sparked significant attention on X, generating both concern and criticism. Various individuals, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, responded to the news by discussing the broader context of human dignity and value. Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood clinic director, also expressed strong disapproval, labeling Ridgway’s actions and comments negatively.

Despite the backlash, some individuals offered supportive messages, sharing personal experiences with Down syndrome. Yet, the dominant response on social media platforms like YouTube and X was negative.

In response to the criticism, Ridgway stated, “I’ve never seen such hate and vitriol for two people grieving the loss of their unborn child and making an impossible decision. The last 24 hours have exposed a side of humanity that is deeply disturbing.” He highlighted the rarity of discussing such personal experiences publicly and the divisive reactions they generate.

Fox News Digital attempted to reach out to Ridgway for further comments on the situation.
