U.K. Sends RAF Typhoon Jets to Saudi Arabia for Defense

The United Kingdom is set to deploy RAF Typhoon jets to Saudi Arabia. This move aims to bolster defenses against missile and drone threats posed by the Iranian-backed Houthis.

Deployment Details

On Tuesday, U.K. Defense Secretary Wes Streeting announced that these jets would serve a protective purpose. They will not engage in offensive operations against the Houthis. Alongside the fighters, the U.K. plans to send military advisers and a RAF A400M transport aircraft. This transport aircraft will aid in moving defense equipment throughout Saudi Arabia.

Response to Recent Attacks

The decision follows two attacks claimed by the Houthis on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport. These strikes, carried out on October 10 and 11, resulted in 13 fatalities and 308 injuries. The Houthis are engaged in a lengthy civil conflict with Yemen’s government, which receives backing from Saudi Arabia.

This story is still unfolding, with further updates expected.
