A mother in New York has shared how her young daughters provide each other comfort at bedtime. MariLuz Roth, living in Long Island, filmed her identical twin girls, Maple and Fiona, interacting before they peacefully fall asleep.
MariLuz, a developmental specialist, finds this significant because it echoes how they connected in the womb. “This is how they fall asleep most nights,” she told Newsweek. “It almost seems like their natural way.” MariLuz, along with her husband Glenn, emphasizes that the touching routine arose without any specific method. “Every family is different, and parents should follow what feels right to them,” she advised. “One exception is the benefit of having a consistent, predictable routine.”
After dinner, the twins say goodnight to their father and engage in reading, talking, and cuddling. A short story often becomes a longer session as the family takes time to discuss pictures and create stories. “Most nights, they might talk or read together quietly before drifting to sleep,” MariLuz explained.
The twins have shared a strong bond since infancy. Initially co-sleeping with MariLuz, they moved to their room at about 10 months, with cribs placed side by side for comfort. Their comfort naturally evolved with language and independence, there wasn’t any single moment that changed how they helped each other fall asleep.
MariLuz shared this experience on Instagram (@doublethemilestones), which has reached 1.3 million views. Many users reacted to the heartwarming scene, some describing it as “precious” and “beautiful.” Fiona and Maple were over 2 years old when the footage was taken. Reflecting on this, MariLuz appreciated the girls’ instinctive care for each other, choosing to nurture this connection rather than interrupt it. “Their emotional awareness continues to amaze me. They naturally comfort each other, celebrate each other’s successes, and genuinely seem happiest together,” she shared.
The deep bond between the twins led MariLuz to document their lives online. “Capturing these moments reminds people of genuine innocence, empathy, and love,” MariLuz commented. “In constant exposure to negativity, I hoped these moments offer a return to compassion and hope.”
