TSA officers recently uncovered a surprising item inside a passenger’s checked luggage after an Xbox set off an alarm. This unusual discovery was announced by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The event unfolded at LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in New York City when a passenger’s bag triggered the alarm.
Incident Details
While inspecting the alarm, TSA Officer Ashley Leo redirected the bag to the checked baggage resolution area. Supervisory Transportation Security Officer (STSO) Christopher Ramos was in charge there according to the TSA’s statement. Ramos found a plastic bag holding numerous fake IDs next to the Xbox.
“I noticed various driver’s licenses with different birthdates and class types, yet shared the same photograph,” Ramos stated.
Focused on following screening procedures, Ramos paid close attention to anything out of the ordinary. He promptly reported the discovery through proper channels.
Authorities’ Response
After alerting TSA management, airport officials, and Port Authority police, authorities confirmed the IDs were counterfeit. As a result, the passenger was arrested before boarding.
TSA LGA Federal Security Director John Essig praised STSO Christopher Ramos for his strict adherence to procedures and situational awareness, preventing the fraudulent IDs from entering the airport’s secure area. Essig emphasized the importance of identifying fake IDs as part of TSA’s security measures, ensuring that individuals in secure zones are who they claim to be.
Other Airport Discoveries
This incident is part of a series of unusual finds by TSA officers nationwide. At Dallas Love Field Airport in Texas, officers recently found a pocketknife hidden inside a toothpaste tube during carry-on screening. Tampa International Airport officers in Florida discovered a 4-inch knife inside a baseball bat-shaped flashlight.
These discoveries illustrate TSA’s ongoing efforts to maintain airport security and safeguard passengers.
