Tragic Stabbing in Texas Leads to Arrests

Three women face murder charges following the stabbing of a 32-year-old mother in Texas. Kitty Mia Diaz, 21, Amaya Cookie Diaz, 19, and Kyandra Renee Faz, 21, were arrested in Del Rio for their alleged roles in the attack. The victim, Caroline ‘Caro’ Peña, leaves behind five children.

The Del Rio Police Department announced the arrests after Peña was attacked and fatally injured on a busy street. Her friend, Zelina Ochoa, shared with KENS 5 that Peña was committed to her role as a mother.

Officers responded to Val Verde Regional Medical Center at 2:10 p.m. Thursday upon reports of Peña’s stabbing injuries from a public street corner. Those injuries later led to her being transferred to a San Antonio medical center, where she succumbed to her wounds.

Video footage and witness interviews enabled the police to identify the suspects quickly. All three were taken into custody on Thursday, with the Diaz sisters arrested around 4 p.m. and Faz shortly after.

Christina Salinas, another friend of Peña’s, expressed regret over missing Peña’s call shortly before the incident. She believes her presence might have affected the outcome.

The authorities have yet to establish a motive for the attack. As the investigation proceeds, more charges might arise based on further evidence.

Peña’s legacy endures through her children and her twin sister. Ochoa reflected on Peña’s generosity and kindness, recalling her willingness to help others in need.
