A fatal incident occurred on Tuesday involving federal immigration authorities in St. Augustine, Florida. Authorities reported that a 28-year-old Mexican citizen, among four individuals in a vehicle, fled on foot from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents at a gas station parking lot.
During the escape, one individual attempted to cross a busy road where he was tragically struck by a semitruck. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene due to the sustained injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The truck driver, aged 64, stopped immediately and rendered aid, and FHP is actively investigating the incident.
This marks the third fatality in approximately a week involving individuals fleeing or having encounters with ICE agents. In Texas, another man was shot after allegedly attempting to ram agents with his vehicle. Similarly, in Maine, a man was shot while inside a vehicle.
