Tom Homan Denounces Calls to Abolish ICE Amid Record Border Enforcement

Tom Homan, a notable figure in border enforcement, recently voiced strong opposition to the progressive push for abolishing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). With border enforcement reaching record highs, Homan emphasized the agency’s pivotal role in maintaining national security.

He highlighted recent statistics, noting that seventy percent of detainees are convicted criminals. Furthermore, he underscored ICE’s efforts in rescuing over 150,000 smuggled children, warning of the risks associated with dismantling the agency.

“As we reflect on the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, the brave men and women of ICE continue to carry out their duty to protect the homeland and keep the American people safe.” — DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin

Since President Donald Trump’s 2025 inauguration, ICE has reported the deportation of over 2,000 known or suspected terrorists, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This information was disclosed ahead of the 25-year commemoration of the 9/11 attacks, which claimed nearly 3,000 lives.

Between January 2025 and September 2026, ICE arrested more than 2,150 suspected terrorists, deporting 2,015 of them. DHS emphasized the agency’s ongoing vigilance and commitment to national safety.

Recent cases highlighted by DHS include arrests such as Abraham Hermosillo Alvarez, a Mexican national and alleged ringleader in a mass-casualty plot targeting an event at the White House, and Felipe Linares De Oliveira Dell Aquilla, a Brazilian suspected former commander of terrorist organizations. ICE detained Alvarez following his arrest, while Aquilla faced multiple charges, including firearm possession.

Additionally, four Venezuelan members of Tren de Aragua pled guilty to charges linked to a Bronx shooting in 2024. DHS reported all four entered the U.S. illegally between 2022 and 2023.

The 9/11 attacks led to substantial changes in U.S. homeland security, including the establishment of DHS in 2002 and ICE in 2003. The anniversary on Friday will honor the victims and first responders, marking 25 years of efforts to thwart further large-scale attacks.
