U.S. Marine veteran Robert Gilman has returned home after enduring 1,666 days of wrongful detention in a Russian prison. Following his release, Gilman is headed to a military hospital in Texas to receive essential medical and psychological care.
Kieran Ramsey, a family representative, described Gilman’s deteriorated health on ‘America’s Newsroom.’ “He’s very frail,” Ramsey stated, highlighting images released by the White House that show Gilman’s weakened state.

Gilman’s nightmare began under accusations of assaulting a Russian police officer, with Ramsey and others dismissing these charges as false. This case adds to Russia’s pattern of targeting Americans, including other U.S. Marines.
Prominent figures, like Senator Ed Markey, have criticized Russia’s actions. Markey noted that Gilman suffered “physical torture, forced medication, and provocations.” The full extent of Gilman’s condition is yet unknown.
Gilman’s situation reflects the broader issue of American detentions abroad. Ramsey pointed to the experiences of Trevor Reed and Paul Whelan, emphasizing the ongoing need to secure the release of at least ten other Americans in similar situations.
Kieran Ramsey expressed gratitude toward former President Donald Trump, crediting him for playing a role in securing Gilman’s release. Ramsey called for continued efforts from leaders like Trump and special envoy Steve Witkoff to bring other Americans home.
