Tyler Shultz, a former employee of Theranos and a key whistleblower in unveiling the fraudulent activities of Elizabeth Holmes’ biotech company, recently shared his thoughts on the documentary “You Can See Everything.” Shultz expressed shock at the portrayal of Holmes in the film, noting that the confident woman he once knew was depicted as “broken.” During an interview on “CBS Mornings,” Shultz described Holmes as someone who commanded any room, regardless of the stature of those present. This stark contrast to her on-screen appearance puzzled him.
Shultz also raised concerns about the documentary’s depiction of Theranos’ blood-testing device. Holmes presented a device during the film, asserting that it was the original Theranos equipment. However, Shultz contested this claim, stating that the device shown was not the one he worked with extensively. He emphasized that the device showcased in the film was not the device known for failing quality controls or misleading patients with incorrect medical results. In Shultz’s view, Holmes misled the director Nathan Fielder about the realities of the technology.
Despite Her portrayal in the documentary, Holmes has consistently denied wrongdoing regarding the Theranos scandal. Convicted in 2022 for defrauding investors, Holmes had marketed a revolutionary diagnostic technology, promising comprehensive analyses from tiny blood samples. The failure of the technology led to significant legal scrutiny and Holmes’ subsequent 11-year prison sentence.
Shultz, who was initially employed at Theranos in 2013, played a crucial role in exposing its fraudulent practices. He provided information to The Wall Street Journal and regulatory agencies, subsequently appearing in the 2016 HBO documentary “The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley.” “You Can See Everything,” which premiered recently, drew public attention and earned $15 million in its opening weekend.
