An Oklahoma teenager is in critical condition following participation in a dangerous viral trend known as the ‘Benadryl challenge.’ This challenge has already resulted in several hospitalizations among children.
The challenge involves taking large doses of Benadryl to experience a high while attempting to stay awake through the drowsiness it causes. This activity poses severe health risks, including seizures and cardiac arrest.
Fifteen-year-old Leah Presson is currently in intensive care in Oklahoma. Multiple medical tests have indicated zero brain activity, as reported by local news outlet KFOR. Her father, Richard Presson, expressed his hope to the outlet: ‘I don’t even want to think about a funeral because I feel like there’s still hope and everybody’s giving up too soon… I believe in miracles, that she’s definitely a miracle baby.’
Richard Presson emphasized the importance of awareness and education: ‘I just want everybody to be aware of where they can educate their kids. But these challenges are just silly and they need to be educated so it doesn’t happen again.’
