Spurs’ Victory in New York with Wembanyama’s Stellar Performance

Madison Square Garden was filled with excitement as New York hosted its first NBA Finals game since 1999. The New York Knicks led the series 2-0 against the San Antonio Spurs. This left the Spurs with a challenging task as they faced a crucial game on enemy ground. Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs’ star, made every effort to prevent a third straight loss.

Wembanyama, recently named NBA Defensive Player of the Year, was outstanding. He scored 32 points on 11-for-18 shooting and added eight rebounds, six assists, three blocks, and two steals. This contributed to the Spurs’ narrow 115-111 victory on Monday night.

After the game, Wembanyama unintentionally bypassed his scheduled interview with Lisa Salters as he made his way to the locker room. When he returned, he praised his teammates and acknowledged, “the hardest is still to come.” His interview gained attention because his 7-foot-4 frame completely obscured Salters from the camera’s view.

“Sis got her arm up like the Statue of Liberty and it’s still three feet below his mouth lololol,” commented a fan online.

Others joined in:

  • “Hilarious. Someone get this woman a stool or something 🤣,” noted another fan.
  • “The Statue of Liberty is interviewing Wemby Lol 😂,” another jested.

During the interview, Spurs point guard De’Aaron Fox humorously interrupted, calling out, “It’s midnight, man, let’s go!” This highlighted Wembanyama’s serious commitment to his routine.

Fox explained after Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals, “Everything you hear about Vic is true. He doesn’t want to see blue light after 9 o’clock. He reads books and avoids his phone.”

Fox added, “When games end near midnight, he wears blue light glasses in the locker room, emphasizing his focus on recovery. At 22, he loves the game and takes care of his body.”

Wembanyama’s dedication will be essential as the Spurs aim to win the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy. Defeating the Knicks for the first time since April 23 was a promising start. The Spurs plan to equalize the series in Game 4 at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday.
