Sony Pictures Fires Jim Thornton from ‘Wheel of Fortune’

Sony Pictures Television Studios has terminated Jim Thornton’s role on Wheel of Fortune. According to a Sony spokesperson, this decision follows a detailed investigation. Thornton was officially removed from his announcing position on Friday.

Earlier in the week, Thornton had been suspended from the show. He has been an announcer since 2011.

We have been made aware of allegations against Jim Thornton. He has been suspended while we conduct a thorough investigation, a Sony Pictures Television Studios spokesperson stated.

The specific allegations remain undisclosed. However, the issue reportedly arises from an incident on an American Airlines flight in May. The airline reported that law enforcement met the flight at Los Angeles International Airport due to a passenger complaint regarding Thornton’s behavior.

Thornton was reportedly approached by authorities upon landing but was not detained. His attorney clarified that there was no illegal activity, arrest, or charges. They added that law enforcement spoke briefly with Thornton and determined no misconduct.

Thornton took over as announcer after the passing of Charlie O’Donnell in 2010. He was known for his significant contribution to the long-running game show, which currently features Ryan Seacrest as the host.
