Outrage in Ceuta Over Dolphin Incident Involving Migrants

In the North African Spanish enclave of Ceuta, a disturbing video has emerged depicting migrants engaging in cruel behavior towards a dolphin. The footage shows individuals triumphantly raising what seems to be a young bottlenose dolphin calf as nearby onlookers cheered. This incident occurred when the dolphin swam too close to shore, resulting in a group allegedly pulling it from El Trampolin beach.

The celebration provoked anger among local residents who attempted to intervene. Reports suggest one of the individuals struck the dolphin with a stick, causing grave injury. Some voices in the video expressed disapproval, while others appeared concerned about the harsh treatment of the animal. Eventually, someone returned the dolphin to the water. This act has sparked widespread outrage within the Ceuta community.

Nadia Garcia Gomez shared a social media post calling for action against those involved in the incident. The post describes the event on September 2, 2026, when a disoriented dolphin calf was violently extracted from the water at Trampolin Beach. Witnesses and media reported that the animal was treated inhumanely and fatally struck on the head. Gomez labeled the actions as ‘extreme and unjustifiable cruelty’ and stressed that dolphins are protected under Spanish and European laws.

The incident comes at a time when Ceuta faces a significant influx of migrants, primarily from Morocco. In late July, over 70,000 migrants attempted to breach the enclave’s borders. Although most have since returned, several thousand remain. The ongoing situation has led some residents to call for stronger measures, including deportations, from authorities in Madrid. Last week saw locals dismantling migrant shelters on the beach in protest.
