Chris Rabb, a Democrat representing West Oak Lane in Pennsylvania, challenges views on ‘illegal immigrants’ and the role of the police. Rabb, known for advocating progressive measures like abolishing the death penalty and promoting renewable energy by 2050, has introduced various initiatives. In 2019, he proposed a ‘carbon pricing’ bill to tax greenhouse-gas emissions, aiming to reinvest in support for low-income consumers and workers affected by the declining fossil fuel industry. Additionally, Rabb has discussed the ongoing impact of the ‘Nakba’ regarding Palestinian displacement.
Rabb’s platform includes far-left positions such as Medicare for All, universal basic income, and federal job guarantees. He advocates for guaranteed housing, universal childcare, and replacing GDP with a ‘genuine progress indicator.’ Fox News host Sean Hannity described Rabb’s intentions as potentially radical and transformative.
Rabb responded to some of these interpretations, clarifying he isn’t running on some of the Democratic Socialists of America’s goals, like abolishing the Senate. When asked about support for amnesty and abolishing borders, Rabb challenged the notion of ‘illegals,’ emphasizing fairness, justice, and efficiency in the immigration system. He expressed support for abolishing ICE and ending deportations, pointing out a failed immigration package led by Senators James Lankford and Kyrsten Sinema.
Addressing police services, Rabb noted that policing as an organized institution developed later in American history. He highlighted that the central Philadelphia Police Department was not formed until 1854 following a series of riots. Rabb argued for community safety without depending entirely on police, referencing historical practices before formal policing.
On the topic of disarming the police, Rabb emphasized self-defense, drawing on personal family history from the South, where distrust of police stemmed from their association with the Ku Klux Klan.
Rabb recently won his Democratic primary against Sharif Street, backed by notable political figures. In November, Rabb faces independent candidate Dennis Mahoney, with no Republican opponent. His Pennsylvania roots trace back to Allentown, and he has worked with Fox News in both New York and Washington since 2013.
