Senate Debate Focuses on Trump, Economy, and Foreign Policy

The initial debate in the race for a critical U.S. Senate seat centered on discussions about Trump, economic challenges, and the conflict in Iran.

On October 6, 2026, Democrat Troy Jackson and Republican Sen. Susan Collins engaged in the first of four scheduled debates in Maine.

Troy Jackson criticized Sen. Collins, challenging her reputation as an effective legislator who secures substantial funding for Maine. Jackson argued that Collins has contributed to rising costs for residents by not effectively opposing President Trump’s actions, including the war in Iran and tariffs imposed on Canada.
