Coyotes Caught on Camera Explain Mysterious Nighttime Barking at Cabin

A couple from Southern California has solved the mystery of their dog’s nighttime barking at their cabin, located in the San Bernardino Mountains. Surveillance footage provided the answer—they discovered three coyotes right outside the front door.

The coyotes engaged in a lengthy scuffle, lasting about 40 minutes, around 1 a.m. on a Sunday morning. David and Annette Simpson, the cabin owners, were not present when the incident occurred; however, their cameras captured the event in detail.

Instead of letting the footage go unseen, the couple chose to share the video on social media and discuss the event with local news channels. Annette Simpson revealed to KTLA, “We wonder why our dog barks in the middle of the night, and now we know.”

The couple has encountered various wildlife around their cabin before, including bears and squirrels, but witnessing a coyote confrontation so close to their home was a unique experience. Despite the proximity of the coyotes, Annette found the incident intriguing. “I think it’s pretty cool. We really enjoy watching the wildlife,” she noted.

Nevertheless, observing wildlife so near their living space prompted some caution. Annette mentioned she often lets her cats outside on the patio, but she is reconsidering this practice after witnessing the coyotes’ presence.
