Jeremiah Smith Silences Critics with Stellar Performance

Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is proving his critics wrong with each game he plays this season. On Saturday, Smith delivered a remarkable performance, recording 11 receptions for 206 yards and two touchdowns in Ohio State’s 31-14 victory over Iowa. This marks his second consecutive game with over 200 receiving yards and his third game this season with at least two touchdowns.

David Pollack, a former Georgia defensive end turned college football analyst, was among those who previously expressed doubt about Smith’s abilities. Following Smith’s latest game, Pollack offered a public apology for his earlier criticism of the talented junior.

“Jeremiah Smith, I apologize. I was wrong; you were right. Everyone else is smart; I’m stupid. He’s the best player in college football. It’s very clear,” Pollack admitted.

Pollack also noted that Smith had set Ohio State records for career receptions, receiving touchdowns, and receiving yards this season. He explained his past skepticism of the star receiver by reflecting on his initial reluctance to join the chorus of praise surrounding Smith’s achievements.

“The superhuman mutant moved all over the field. He’s done a little bit of everything,” Pollack said. “I’m one of the people that when you continue to talk about somebody all the time, I’m like, ‘Alright, we’ve had enough of that.’ Keep talking about him. He’s that good.”

For the season, Smith leads the nation with 44 receptions and 823 receiving yards. He shares the lead with Oregon State’s Jesse Legree in touchdowns, with nine. Based on his recent performances, Smith remains the favorite to secure the Heisman Trophy. His efforts have been pivotal in maintaining Ohio State’s 4-1 record and their position in the national championship conversation.

Smith will seek to further his impressive record when Ohio State faces reigning national champion Indiana on Saturday, Oct. 17. This matchup presents an opportunity for revenge against the Hoosiers and the chance to boost his already outstanding stats.
