Tensions Flare as TJ Watt Expresses Frustration During Steelers’ Loss

Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher TJ Watt was visibly frustrated during the team’s Week 4 loss to the Cleveland Browns. Onlookers watched as Watt grabbed a headset on the sidelines, appearing to communicate his concerns vigorously with Steelers defensive coordinator Patrick Graham.

This public display of dissatisfaction may seem a challenge to Graham’s authority. Yet, former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger believes Watt has earned the right to address his concerns publicly. Roethlisberger voiced his views on his podcast, “Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger.” The ex-quarterback emphasized that Watt’s actions carry weight due to their rarity. “When it doesn’t happen that often… When TJ Watt grabs that thing, it’s probably like, ‘Okay, something is going on,'” Roethlisberger remarked.

Roethlisberger continued to praise Watt’s leadership qualities. “If he did this every week, it would be like, ‘What are we doing?’ He’s a leader, a captain. I assume he’s a captain, he should be. If not, he’s a Hall of Fame guy making plays. He’s a bright spot for this team. Because he doesn’t do it that often, it’s going to create headway,” he added.

Regardless of opinions on Watt’s actions, his status in the team allows him to voice opinions without criticism. The Steelers defense is now focused on bouncing back from their recent loss. They are set to face the Indianapolis Colts at home in Week 5. The Colts are riding a wave of success with recent wins against the Houston Texans and the Washington Commanders.
