The discussion centered around Fauci’s previous Senate hearing where he invoked the Fifth Amendment over 100 times, chaired by Paul. The senator expressed his uncertainty about what to expect from Fauci’s testimony and suggested that a pardon from former President Joe Biden could have shielded Fauci from legal consequences.
Paul explained that his main focus was gaining clarity on the gain-of-function research allegedly linked to Fauci before the COVID-19 pandemic. Gain-of-function research involves altering organisms or viruses for research purposes, potentially enhancing their capabilities. This method raises controversy, and Paul emphasized its danger, mentioning its referral to the Department of Justice, although expressing doubt about Biden’s administration pursuing action.
Further conversation with host Geist led Paul to accuse Fauci of lying to Congress, which he considers a felony. Paul insisted that those committing such felonies should face jail time. He shared that many from the Trump administration previously faced jail sentences for similar accusations. According to Paul, Fauci’s private emails contradict his public statements, reinforcing claims of deceit.
When questioned about potential ulterior motives behind Fauci’s actions, Paul refrained from labeling them as ‘nefarious’ but criticized Fauci’s belief that the general public couldn’t handle the truth.
