California authorities have seized suspected cocaine valued at over $800,000 following a traffic stop. The incident occurred in Merced County when a California Highway Patrol (CHP) canine officer stopped a 2025 Honda CR-V for a traffic violation.
The officer observed signs of potential criminal activity during the stop. A subsequent vehicle search revealed a bag with about 30 pounds of suspected cocaine, estimated to be worth $817,200.
The California Highway Patrol reported the seizure of 30 pounds of cocaine during the traffic stop in Merced County.
The driver was subsequently arrested and booked at the Merced County Main Jail. Charges include possession of cocaine for sale and transporting cocaine between non-contiguous counties.
The Merced Area Gang Narcotics Enforcement Team (MAGNET) is leading the investigation into the case. Recently, federal authorities made another extensive cocaine seizure involving over 1,000 pounds hidden beneath the floorboards of a commercial truck entering the U.S. from Mexico.
Federal Cocaine Seizures
Federal efforts in the fight against drug trafficking have been significant. Last month, authorities intercepted over a half-ton of cocaine concealed across various methods. At the Calexico Port of Entry, authorities found cocaine beneath truck and trailer floorboards with a value exceeding $20 million.
In another incident, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers discovered $3.7 million worth of cocaine hidden in a shipment of cucumbers. During a canine inspection at the Pharr International Bridge in Texas, anomalies were detected, leading to the discovery of 278.88 pounds of cocaine.
