A day before a tragic shooting left three dead and four injured at Seattle’s celebrated Bite of Seattle festival, a content creator had voiced concerns about inadequate security measures at the event.
Incident Details
The shooting occurred around 6 p.m. on Sunday, during the final hours of the annual festival known for attracting numerous food and retail vendors, as well as performers. The incident prompted police to launch an investigation and advised the public to avoid the area in northwest downtown Seattle. Law enforcement detained one individual and are actively searching for another suspect. Assistant Seattle Police Chief Tyrone Davis mentioned that initial investigations suggest the two involved parties were exchanging gunfire.
Security Concerns Raised
On Saturday, a video posted on TikTok by a user with the handle “leebotracks” highlighted concerns about the festival’s security. The video depicted the creator walking through the festival, noting the lack of security measures such as pat-downs or bag checks for attendees. He urged festival organizers to implement better security protocols to ensure public safety, stating, “Make it happen. Keep the people safe. You should not be able to just walk up into this festival with all these people, with all these vendors, with no security.”
Following the shooting, the same creator responded via another video late Sunday night, expressing his previous warnings about the security situation. He remarked, “I tried to let everybody know how security was being handled. Nobody can say I didn’t try to let people know. People really were bashing me in my comment sections on the previous videos.”
Past Security Statements
There is uncertainty about the exact security measures that were implemented at this year’s festival. In the previous year, festival organizers asserted their commitment to security after a vendor reported a break-in, claiming they had a “strong record of security.”
