Riley Green, known as a rising star in country music, has ventured into acting with guidance from a well-known friend. On a recent appearance on “CBS Mornings,” Green detailed how “Yellowstone” actor Luke Grimes aided his transition into acting. Their collaboration began with writing music together, which eventually led to an acting opportunity for Green.
Green made his on-screen debut on the CBS series “Marshals,” playing the role of Garrett, a former Navy SEAL dealing with PTSD, alongside Grimes. The opportunity arose naturally while Grimes was also exploring his own music career in Nashville. Grimes proposed that Green try acting, and soon Green was auditioning for a part. “They said I got it,” Green shared. He traveled to Utah to film the show, marking his entry into a new industry.
Green acknowledged how unique this opportunity was, noting, “I guess that doesn’t happen all the time, where the star of the show sits in with somebody trying out for a part.” His friendship with Grimes made the transition easier, despite it being a world outside his comfort zone. Performing on stage had become second nature for Green, but acting presented new challenges.
Before his breakthrough in music, Green worked in construction, framing houses, until he signed a record deal in 2018. He expressed gratitude for the gradual pace of his success, feeling more equipped now than earlier in his career. He continues to cherish his past, preferring his farm life in Alabama to permanent relocation to Nashville.
Green’s music career took off when he signed with Big Machine Label Group. He’s known for hits like “There Was This Girl” and “I Wish Grandpas Never Died.” Despite his achievements and new ventures, Green values the connection with his audience during shows over industry accolades. “When you see it growing, it just makes you want to go play more shows and keep grinding,” he remarked.
Though he’s experienced a taste of Hollywood, Green maintains his rural roots. “Me in real life, I’d rather be on my bulldozer on a farm, or hunting somewhere,” he stated, highlighting his preference for a simpler lifestyle.
