Rey Mysterio, a WWE champion and iconic wrestler, began his career with AAA wrestling. He debuted at the inaugural Triplemania event in 1993 under the name Rey Misterio Jr., partnering with Volador and Misterioso against Los Destructores, a team consisting of Tony Arce, Vulcano, and Rocco Valente.
Now, over thirty years later, Mysterio has become the general manager of AAA. He is set to participate in the main event of Triplemania 34 Night 1 in Las Vegas. “It’s a very special moment for me in so many ways,” Mysterio mentioned in an interview with OutKick Dropkick. He emphasized how AAA was the first organization to give him an opportunity, recounting his involvement in its first show in 1992 and the first Triplemania in 1993. The journey has come full circle for him.
The current event marks the first-ever two-night Triplemania. The inaugural night is set in Las Vegas, with the second night hosted in Mexico City. Mysterio described the experience as amazing despite some chaos in organizing the event, noting that the confrontation with Omos, a 7-foot-3 opponent, added a unique thrill.
The rivalry with Omos, who injured Galeno and attacked Mysterio with Dominik Mysterio’s assistance, will culminate on Friday night. Omos attended Ola de Color as a spectator but caused disruption by assaulting Mysterio again. Mysterio remains unfazed by Omos’ formidable presence. “I’ve felt his power. Very strong dude. Very intimidating,” he remarked. Yet, he is confident in facing bigger opponents, a regular challenge throughout his career.
The match holds significant stakes for Mysterio. A victory means Omos is permanently barred from competing in AAA. If Mysterio loses, Omos will be allowed back into the roster. Mysterio is determined to uphold his authority as AAA’s GM, stating that no wrestler should intimidate or challenge his position.
Triplemania 34 Night 1 will take place at the MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas, starting at 10 p.m. ET. Night 2 will occur at Arena CDMX in Mexico City. The events will be available for viewing on YouTube.
