President Trump Advocates for Expanded Abraham Accords

President Donald Trump has emphasized the importance of including more countries in any future agreement with Iran. He has proposed that nations such as Saudi Arabia and Turkey should also become part of the Abraham Accords. These U.S.-brokered agreements aim to normalize relations with Israel and were initially created during Trump’s first term.

In a social media statement, Trump mentioned that negotiations are “proceeding nicely” but insisted that expanded participation in the accords is necessary. He noted that Saudi Arabia and Qatar should “immediately” join the accords, followed by countries like Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, and Jordan. The first nations to join in 2020 were Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.

Trump wrote that after the extensive efforts made by the United States to facilitate these complex agreements, it should be mandatory for these countries to simultaneously sign the Abraham Accords. He shared that he discussed this plan with leaders during negotiations last Saturday. While he acknowledged the possibility of “one or two” countries opting out, he expressed confidence that most would agree to participate.

Egypt and Jordan already have formal recognition and peace treaties with Israel. As for Iran, details about how a deal might be finalized or how the membership in the Abraham Accords would impact it remain unclear. Trump even suggested that Iran could eventually join, given an agreement is reached. The Accords initially involved Israel, the UAE, Bahrain, and later expanded to include Sudan, Morocco, and Kazakhstan.

The Abraham Accords focus on fostering diplomatic, economic, and security cooperation among countries in the Middle East and North Africa. The Trump administration saw this initiative as a path to establishing full diplomatic ties with Israel.
