Before gaining popularity as David Puddy on Seinfeld, Patrick Warburton found himself in an interesting role alongside comedy legend Carol Burnett. On Nostalgia Tonight with Joe Sibilia, Warburton reminisced about the experience of being teamed with Burnett in a comedic skit.
“I made out with her,” said Warburton, describing his character as a 27-year-old involved with Burnett’s characters. In the skit, Burnett, then in her late 50s, played both a good and evil twin, both romantically linked with Warburton’s character.
Warburton recalled her humor during rehearsals, noting, “Carol was adorable.” He reflected on his unusual experiences working with older actresses, joking about similar roles with Betty White and Bea Arthur.
Working with other comedic legends has featured prominently in Warburton’s career. He shared a story of a sushi lunch with Bea Arthur during a show. While initially uneasy, he found Arthur to be passionate about rescuing greyhound dogs.
Warburton later became well-known not only for his role on Seinfeld but for voicing Joe Swanson on Family Guy. His parents, John and Barbara Warburton, held a strong disapproval of the show due to their religious beliefs. Despite this, Warburton grew successful in roles they disliked.
Warburton recounted humorous attempts by his mother to influence Jerry Seinfeld’s faith, sharing how his mother tried to convert Seinfeld with a video after attending one of his shows.
Warburton, who describes himself as a “bad Catholic,” admits to moments of discomfort with his work due to his faith. “Catholic guilt runs deep,” he said, though he believes in God’s sense of humor.
