Patrick Mahomes’ Triumphant Return Quietens Doubters

Patrick Mahomes felt the strains of constant questions about his knee injury, but he silenced skeptics during “Monday Night Football.” The Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback led a 10-play, 46-yard opening drive, concluding with a 15-yard dash for a touchdown against the Denver Broncos.

Mahomes faced a torn ACL during a game with the Los Angeles Chargers on December 14. His recovery was swift and extraordinary, leading to his return by Week 1. According to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, Mahomes expedited his recovery by opting for immediate surgery before knee swelling could occur. Mahomes claimed readiness by the start of mandatory minicamp.

Said on yesterday’s NFL on FOX Patrick Mahomes did something to attack his recovery from torn ACL and LCL, he immediately flew to Dallas to get the surgery BEFORE it swelled and filled with inflammation, Glazer posted on X. Usually players wait til AFTER the swelling and inflammation subsides.

This approach allowed Mahomes to begin rehabilitation only days after his injury. His dedication to recovery impressed, with Mahomes stating he felt fully ready by the first week of June.

On Monday night, his knee was a non-issue for the Chiefs. Mahomes completed 15 of 27 passes for 184 yards, achieved two touchdowns, and one interception. On the ground, he gained 23 yards and added another touchdown, contributing to the Chiefs’ 31-10 victory over the Broncos.

The Chiefs also benefitted from the contribution of running back Kenneth Walker III, a new signee in free agency. Walker significantly supported the offense with 173 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries.
