In anticipation of the aerial displays set for the Fourth of July in Washington, D.C., a new app allows Americans to track the flyovers in real-time. Created by Shawn Chittle from the White House, the ‘4th of July Fly Over’ app serves as a guide for those gathered around the National Mall and Washington Monument.
The app includes an adjustable countdown timer aligned with the official schedule. Users can manually fine-tune the timer to ensure accuracy, displaying which aircraft will appear next. This function caters to the dynamic nature of the event.
Beyond tracking, the app offers photos, historical context, and essential details about the aircraft in the flyover. It is an indispensable tool for following the ‘Freedom 250’ event that lasts over nine hours.
The schedule kicks off at 1:14 p.m. with a NASA F-5 flyover and progresses through fleets from services like the Coast Guard, Army, and Air Force. Notable appearances include the Navy Blue Angels at 4:59 p.m. and the Air Force Thunderbirds at 6:25 p.m.
A highlight at 7 p.m. is Air Force One, succeeded by a display from the updated Air Force One at 7:17 p.m. The evening features a Stealth Airpower flyover at 7:38 p.m., an F-22 Raptor at 7:53 p.m., and B-1 bombers at 8:07 p.m.
For those staying late, a B-1 night pass at 10:36 p.m. offers a spectacular finale. The app’s interface allows easy bookmarking or addition to home screens to aid spectators in not missing any action.
