In Peoria, the Mundelein Mustangs secured a 13-3 victory over Oswego, the defending Class 4A champions, in a six-inning state semifinal. The match took place at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex on Friday.
Junior second baseman Devin Hill played a key role by going 2-for-4 and driving in three RBIs. Hill’s performance included a run-scoring single in the first inning and a two-run single in the third inning, helping the Mustangs (23-5) to take an 8-0 lead against the Panthers (22-12).
The Mustangs will now face Lincoln-Way West (29-7) in their first state championship game at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday.
Senior center fielder Kieley Tomas contributed significantly with three hits and three RBIs. Junior shortstop Taylor Pyke added to the team’s success with two hits and two RBIs.
On the mound, senior ace Shae Johnson, who previously led Mundelein to the state semifinals in 2024, returned strong after recovering from a torn labrum in her throwing shoulder. She allowed three runs on six hits and one walk, striking out nine batters.
