Mount Sinai Health System Subpoenaed for Adolescent Gender Care Records

The Mount Sinai Health System has been subpoenaed by a grand jury for details about adolescent patients who received gender-related care. This disclosure was confirmed by a hospital spokeswoman on Friday.

This marks Mount Sinai as the second hospital system in Manhattan publicly acknowledging a federal investigation into their gender-transition treatments for minors. The Trump administration aims to halt these treatments, arguing they harm young and vulnerable individuals.

Previously, NYU Langone revealed receiving a similar subpoena requiring the identification of each under-18 patient who underwent gender-related treatments since 2020. These subpoenas were issued by the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas, as confirmed by the hospitals.

Lucia Lee, Mount Sinai’s spokeswoman, emphasized the institution’s commitment to patient privacy. Lee stated that if compelled, Mount Sinai plans to provide only de-identified information, removing all patient-identifying details.

Lee’s statement did not clarify whether the hospital will contest the subpoena but affirmed that New York law necessitates informing affected patients if records are ultimately produced.
