Mike Tomlin, who has spent many years as the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, now works as an NFL analyst with NBC Sports. After the season opener between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday night, Tomlin shared his thoughts about the Steelers’ upcoming Week 1 game against the Atlanta Falcons.
Tomlin’s Prediction for Steelers vs. Falcons
Tomlin made candid remarks about Tua Tagovailoa, recently selected as the Falcons’ starting quarterback. “It’s less about Aaron [Rodgers] for me, and it’s more about the quarterback on the other side [Tua Tagovailoa]. His last visit to Pittsburgh didn’t go well. I was in the stadium that day. They lost. He got benched,” said Tomlin.
Recap of Tagovailoa’s Past Performance
Tagovailoa’s time with Miami ended after last year’s Week 15 game against Pittsburgh. During that game, he threw for 253 yards with two touchdowns and an interception, resulting in a 28-15 loss to the Steelers. Following this matchup, he was benched for the remaining three games in favor of Quinn Ewers.
“It’s not something that I take for granted,” Tua Tagovailoa said reflecting on his new opportunity with the Falcons. “There’s a lot of things I think I could have done better. Turned the ball over, could have played better. My decision making … in terms of last year just wasn’t good.”
Looking Ahead to Sunday’s Game
The upcoming game between the Falcons and the Steelers is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. Tagovailoa expresses his readiness to make the most of this new starting opportunity with the Falcons.
