A former television news anchor from St. Louis, Angelynn “Angie” Mock, has been sentenced to life in prison. She was convicted for fatally stabbing her mother in Kansas last Halloween.
Mock, 48, will be eligible for parole after 25 years. This decision was made by a Sedgwick County District Court judge, as reported by KWCH. The sentencing follows a plea agreement in which Mock faced charges of first-degree murder.
On October 31, 2025, police found Anita Avers, 80, in her Wichita, Kansas home with multiple stab wounds. This home was shared with Mock and her stepfather.
“I thought my mother was the devil,” angers said, according to a probable cause affidavit. Mock claimed she killed her mother to “save herself.”
Mock’s stepfather revealed to KAKE-TV her diagnosis with a mental illness, suffering from delusions and depression. It was reported that she might be affected by schizoaffective disorder, initially thought to be bipolar disorder.
Despite these claims, a judge deemed Mock competent for trial in July. Subsequently, in August, she pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.
Mock, who once worked as a news anchor for Fox 2 KTVI in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015, had transitioned to software sales. Before that, she was a morning anchor at KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City from 2007 to 2011.
