Early Tuesday morning, Russian authorities reported that Ukraine launched a significant drone attack toward Moscow. According to city officials, from Monday evening until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, a total of 620 drones were identified in the vicinity of the capital.
Moscow’s mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, stated that approximately 180 of these unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were neutralized within the city’s limits. Furthermore, Moscow’s regional governor, Andrey Vorobyov, confirmed that over 150 drones were also intercepted around the metropolitan area.
Russia’s state news agency Tass described this incident as the largest drone attack targeting Moscow in the last two years, emphasizing the scale of Ukraine’s ongoing efforts. Ukrainian forces have consistently used long-range drones to convey the prolonged impact of the war to the Russian public, now approaching four and a half years.
Affected by the drone assault, Russia’s major online retailer, Wildberries, which parallels Amazon, reported minor damages to one of its logistics sites. The damage occurred when debris struck the wall of their facility in the Moscow region.
The Russian defense ministry announced that its air defenses successfully intercepted a total of 791 drones overnight in 15 regions in Russia. In addition, interceptions took place over the annexed Crimean peninsula, as well as over the Azov and Black Seas.
This large-scale Ukrainian offensive marks one of the most significant on Russian territory this year, according to the Tass report.
Details on the situation continue to emerge as more information becomes available.
