Major Police Response to Illegal Street Takeover in L.A.

The Los Angeles Police Department, along with several other agencies, responded early Saturday to reports of an illegal street takeover in the Harbor Gateway neighborhood of Los Angeles, near Gardena. Numerous vehicles crowded the streets around South Figueroa Street and West Alondra Boulevard. Authorities informed OnScene.TV that they had towed approximately 160 vehicles, arrested dozens, and discovered six firearms.

Councilmember Tim McOsker, representing Harbor Gateway, shared with OnScene.TV that officers impounded cars, drivers were detained, and other participants received citations. Children present at the scene were taken to a nearby station for their parents to collect them.

By around 3 a.m., L.A. police had surrounded the area to prevent attendees from escaping. McOsker explained that this neighborhood frequently experiences street takeovers, especially during summer weekends. Anticipating activity on the first night of Labor Day weekend, the LAPD was prepared to intervene.

Law enforcement vehicles barricaded the intersection, stopping anyone from fleeing the scene according to the councilmember. OnScene.TV footage revealed agents from Homeland Security Investigations, part of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, present at the site. However, McOsker stated he was unaware of their role during the street takeover incident, emphasizing it was a local police operation aimed at combating these events.
