Lionel Richie’s Health Issues Lead to Concert Cancellations

On Monday, Lionel Richie was hospitalized in St. Louis. This followed a concert performance over the weekend at The Muny in Forest Park. Details about his hospitalization remain unclear at this time.

Richie, aged 77, has experienced several health problems this summer. These issues have led him to cancel multiple shows. In a message to fans in July, Richie expressed his gratitude, saying, “Thank you for every message, every kind word, and for all your love. I’m doing well, and I’m grateful for all of you.”

Just a week before this, Richie had to postpone a concert in Minnesota due to feeling dizzy. The United Center announced that his upcoming performances in Chicago and Columbus, Ohio, were canceled due to medical advice:

“Under advisement by doctors to rest and return to full health, Lionel Richie has postponed his next two shows. Lionel is heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back performing for his fans,” the Instagram post stated.

The St. Paul Fire Department confirmed last month that someone was transported from the Grand Casino Arena on June 24, 2026, to a local hospital. This occurred when Richie was into his concert at the arena and fans noticed a change in his demeanor.

Richie is well-known as an “American Idol” judge, serving for nine seasons. During a performance of “Dancing on the Ceiling,” he paused and sat on a platform, later informing the audience that he was feeling lightheaded, the Minnesota Star Tribune reported.
