Former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt shared insights into President Donald Trump’s diplomatic strategies in a recent interview. During her appearance on the “Hang Out with Sean Hannity” podcast, she recounted direct conversations with foreign leaders, offering a glimpse behind the diplomatic curtain.
Leavitt highlighted Trump’s straightforward approach during phone calls with figures such as Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping. She noted Trump’s candidness in discussions with allies like former British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. She recalled, “I sat in on a lunch with the president and Starmer. While enjoying lunch, the president began critiquing his policies.”
Trump reportedly told Starmer, “Your policies here are so stupid. You need to close your borders. You need to deport these people you have in your country. I know your country, I know your people, they hate what you’re doing.”
This directness, according to Leavitt, is consistent across Trump’s interactions publicly and in private diplomatic settings. She asserted, “What he says to the media publicly is exactly what he’s saying behind the scenes privately, too.”
Highlighting discussions with Putin and Xi, Leavitt described tense phone calls where Trump maintained a straightforward tone. Although he frequently uses strong language, Trump kept his dialogue professional when it involved foreign leaders.
Leavitt emphasized Trump’s focus on actionable results during these talks. His conversation with Xi addressed the issue of fentanyl precursors manufactured in China. Leavitt stated, “The president was very honest about the fentanyl coming into the country,” demanding action.
Following Trump’s discussions, results were reportedly seen, such as Kash Patel’s announcement on fentanyl precursors no longer being sent to the United States. Trump also encouraged China to increase purchases of U.S. soybeans to support farmers.
Leavitt shared her personal journey, announcing her departure from her White House role to focus on family. In her online statement, she reflected on her tenure, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve and speak on behalf of the administration.
