The New York Knicks center, Karl-Anthony Towns, has received criticism following a Game 3 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals. This marked the Knicks’ first defeat in 46 days. Concerns have arisen about Towns’ performance during the fourth quarter of games.
Statistics shared by @NBAcrazystats indicate that Towns has not scored in the fourth quarter of the finals so far. Despite scoring 50 points in the first three quarters across the series, he has failed to make an impact in the closing moments. Notably, Towns has played more fourth-quarter minutes than any other Knicks player, totaling 29.1 minutes. In contrast, teammate Jalen Brunson has played 26.9 minutes during the same period and scored 32 points.
Initially, Towns was praised for his performance against Spurs star Victor Wembanyama. However, in Game 3, Wembanyama scored 32 points while Towns managed only 11. This shift in performance has led to scrutiny.
“There were times that offense did struggle because he didn’t want the ball,” ESPN’s Alan Hahn remarked on Get Up. “And that was a problem.”
With Game 4 approaching on Wednesday, the Knicks need improved output from their 30-year-old center. A continued lack of performance may result in the Knicks squandering their initial 2-0 series lead, potentially leading to a disappointing NBA Finals loss.
