A U.S. District Judge has agreed to dismiss the seditious-conspiracy charges against Stewart Rhodes, the leader of the Oath Keepers, and seven other members. These individuals were involved in planning the storming of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
On Tuesday, Judge Amit P. Mehta expressed reluctance while dismissing the case. The decision was part of the final step in eliminating penalties from the riot. The judge also expressed criticism towards the Justice Department for not upholding the most serious convictions.
The event has attracted significant attention, especially after Rhodes was seen conversing with known election denier Ivan Raiklin in January 2025. The dismissal leaves questions about the handling and repercussions of the January 6 events.
