Golf challenges even the best players. J.T. Poston felt this truth at the Travelers Championship.
On the 13th hole, Poston faced a promising start. He reached the green in two shots, aiming for a low score. Unfortunately, he ended the hole with a score of 12, a major setback. This incident led to him finishing the tournament at 69th place, at 6-over and 1-over overall, among the 72 who made the cut.

His troubles on the 13th started with a perfect tee shot, landing in the fairway. However, his second shot landed in a bunker. Professionals often manage such shots well, expecting to make advantageous plays.
Yet, the bunker shot didn’t go as planned and was short, requiring a chip shot. Instead of reaching the target, the ball went across the green and into the water. He had to drop the ball three times to eventually get it back on the green, taking a total of 10 strokes to get into a position to putt.
Reflecting on the incident, Poston explained the challenges he encountered. “It’s not really rough, where you can kind of blast it out,” he shared with Golfweek.
“It looks like you can get enough golf ball on it, which is why I kept trying to hit a good chip,” he said.
Poston was unsure about putting through the rough for fear that the ball might not reach the hole. He decided against it, thinking the surface would slow the ball too much. But his attempts with a chip also failed.

His performance didn’t improve on the 14th hole, where a double bogey added to his woes. Poston ended the day with a score of 76.
While Poston struggled, the championship was intense. Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler were tied at 21-under, forcing a playoff scheduled for Monday. Scheffler managed to tie the score with an impressive putt.
