A 63-year-old man caused significant damage when he crashed his vehicle into the wooden gate of Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s East Hampton residence, as reported on Wednesday afternoon. The individual, identified by police as Keith Jonathan Webster from the Bronx, now faces several charges.
Webster has been charged with felony criminal mischief in the second degree and misdemeanor criminal trespass in the third degree. The incident report, obtained by authorities, detailed that the front gate suffered extensive damage. A witness noted Webster was driving at a high speed up the driveway and did not stop until he had breached the gate, entering the premises.
Authorities impounded the vehicle for evidence, and Webster, upon revealing an injury during processing, was taken to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. After receiving medical attention, he was returned to police custody.
During a Thursday arraignment covered by the East Hampton Press, Justice Steven Tekulsky issued a protective order, prohibiting Webster from contacting the celebrity couple. Observers at the court reported that Webster appeared disoriented; he was subsequently evaluated at Stony Brook University Hospital’s mental health facility.
Detective Sergeant Jennifer Dunn confirmed that Webster’s motivations are still being investigated, and noted he had no prior criminal record. It remains unclear if Beyoncé and Jay-Z were present during the time of the incident.
