Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce encountered a setback with his surgically repaired heel during the game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night. Pierce exited the game in the first half and did not return, as the Colts suffered a 33-30 loss in overtime at Arrowhead Stadium.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport reports that Pierce plans to manage the injury through rehabilitation to avoid another surgery. The 26-year-old is anticipated to miss several weeks, with hopes of rejoining the team by midseason. Rapoport mentioned, “It’s likely that Alec Pierce will head to IR while he recovers. If all goes well, he could recover without surgery. But it’s not a guarantee. Surgery is still possible.”
Shortly after Rapoport’s report, Tom Pelissero announced that the Colts are signing veteran wide receiver Darius Slayton. Slayton previously played seven seasons with the New York Giants and was released before the start of the new season. He initially joined the Giants alongside quarterback Daniel Jones, who now plays for the Colts.
In the 2025 season, Slayton appeared in 14 games, starting in 12. During that time, he recorded 37 receptions for 538 yards and one touchdown.
With a 0-2 record, the Colts aim to secure their first win of the 2026 season in their upcoming Week 3 matchup against the Houston Texans on Sunday.
