Oregon Ducks Overcome Setbacks to Prepare for Crucial USC Clash

After experiencing an unexpected defeat by Oklahoma State, the Oregon Ducks made an impressive recovery with an 84-0 victory over Portland State last weekend. During the game, quarterback Dante Moore performed exceptionally well, completing 19 of 23 passes for 280 yards and four touchdowns without any interceptions. Dylan Raiola also contributed by completing all 11 of his pass attempts for 124 yards and three touchdowns, bringing the Ducks’ total offensive output to 453 yards.

Despite the strong showing, the team faces challenges due to injury concerns. Oregon’s head coach Dan Lanning announced that junior wide receiver Jeremiah McClellan will miss an indefinite period due to a broken foot. The injury reportedly occurred during pregame warmups before the match against Portland State, as McClellan was seen sidelined in a walking boot before kickoff.

Jeremiah McClellan, who became a Duck after choosing Oregon over more than 40 other leading college football programs in December 2023, made significant strides as a receiver. Despite limited exposure in his freshman year in 2024, he emerged as one of Dante Moore’s key targets last season. He finished third on the team in receiving resources with 557 yards and 38 receptions, trailing only Malik Benson and Kenyon Sadiq, both now in the NFL.

With McClellan expected to become a primary receiver, his injury has disrupted plans for a break-out season. Over the initial three games of the current season, he accumulated seven receptions for 170 yards and one touchdown, with an average of 24.3 yards per catch. The timing of his absence is particularly distressing, as the Ducks prepare to face Lincoln Riley’s USC Trojans at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. This crucial Big Ten matchup involves two ranked teams vying for a spot in the College Football Playoff, posing a challenge for Moore without one of his top targets.
